      Before We Begin

You’re probably raring and ready to dive into week one.

But before you jump in, we want to talk about three big keys to success.

These are some of the most important concepts for you to understand, not just when it comes to freelance writing, but your entire journey into entrepreneurship.

      What are they?

      1. The right mindset
      2. Taking real action
      3. Being consistent
Getting a business up and running is hard.

That ‘overnight success’ you see people talking about? In most cases, it took years of hard work behind the scenes for them to get traction and make real progress.

Now, we’re not saying that to discourage you. Anyone can build a business from scratch. The point is to let prepare you for the fact that there will be ups and downs during this process.

Everyone, the biggest bloggers, YouTubers, and business owners you know, have moments where they ‘hit the wall’ and struggle to move forward.

      We’ve been there.

But there’s a big difference between the people who can’t get over that wall and give up and the people who can get over it, and that’s because they focus on these three things.

Let’s briefly dig into these a little deeper.

      Why Mindset Matters

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 1

        Welcome!

        Ready to dive in?

        Here’s how it’s going to work…

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 2

One week down, hopefully, still feeling good?

Last week, we gave you a quick introduction to both the site as well as the ideas behind getting started and.

This week, we’re all about taking your ideas and turning them into reality by getting your website up and running.

If you’ve already got your freelance writing site or a blog up and running, you can just browse this section, or even better, work on improving your site.

If you haven’t got anything started at all, we’re going to link to all of the resources you’ll need to get up and running. So this week might be a bit more reading heavy than some of the other weeks, but we think it’s important to help walk you through these things in a bit more detail via the linked resources below.

          Let’s dig in.

Getting your website up and running

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 3

            Welcome to Week 3!

This week we’re all about getting yourself out there. So that means pitching and sending letters of introduction (also called LOIs).

In fact, this stuff is going to be a lot of the main focus of our time moving forward.

So even though subsequent weeks will cover other stuff like getting found by potential clients, email marketing, and some advanced tactics, it’s always a good idea to keep the idea of pitching on the front burner.

After all, for many of you, making money from the jump from creating a freelance business is the name of the game here. And a big part of marketing your site will focus on building relationships.

But first, before you dig too deeply into building these connections, you want to make sure you’ve checked out the previous weeks. Namely, by the time you are getting to the pitching and introducing yourself stage of things, ideally, you want to have a website up and a few sample articles/blog posts to share.

So, if you aren’t at this stage quite yet, that’s ok. At the very least, you want to have a few pieces of content written to show off before you jump into pitching, especially. So if you don’t have a site yet, you can use places like Medium and LinkedIn to write and post some samples to start.

Now that we have that part out of the way, it’s time to become a paid freelance writer.

            Hang your shingle

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 4

              Hey there,

              Welcome to Week 4!

The last few weeks have really been building to this moment. We wanted you to start percolating ideas about your site and who you want your ideal customer to be right now.

If you don’t know who you’re looking to connect with or make money from then things can feel like a giant mess and be a huge mental roadblock before you even really dig into things.

So let’s try to fix that before it starts, ok?

Understanding who you’re talking to (thinking about niches)

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 5

                Week 5…here…we…go.

Last week we dug into figuring out the right client for you, both as someone who wants to pay you as a freelance writer.

This week, we’re going to cover how to promote your brand and get found.

Some of it is going to happen as you get your site up and content on it. If you do a good job with your keyword research and optimizing your content the right way, then you can start seeing some traffic come your way.

From there, it’s a lot of rinses and repeats to start building up more traffic, getting some traction on social media, and making connections.

Now, realize this is going to take time.

In about 99.97% of cases, you aren’t going to get found online by potential clients right away. But, you can use a few keyword skills and knowledge to help get yourself a bit of traction and have people come to you eventually.

                Thinking about your brand

                  LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Break

                  Break

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 6

Let’s talk a little bit about money this week.

We know, we know it’s a complicated topic that can make people uncomfortable.

But, the fact of the matter is you are a business owner now. And it’s hard to have a business if you aren’t making money.

Now, depending on how you’re approaching your freelance writing career — if you’re planning on going all in freelancing to replace your current income and turn into a full-time job or if it’s something you want to dabble in to bring in some extra cash each month, money will mean something different.

And, of course, the money you need will depend on your personal situation too.

What is very important to remember right from the start is you are producing valuable work and thus you should get paid for it.

A lot of people, especially newbies, will get stuck in a cycle of low paying jobs. They will feel like they are just burning themselves out for nothing and think that it’s impossible to make a living freelancing.

You want to avoid that at all costs.

That’s what we’re going to help you do if you keep reading.

                    Ready to dig in?

                    Thinking about your finances

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 7

Last week, we talked about money and some mindsets that can help you make it.

So this week we’re going to talk about things from a business perspective — what happens once you start actually making money.

Keep in mind most of this stuff isn’t a massive priority for right now since you’re new to this. So don’t freak out that you suddenly need to form a business and take care of a bunch of stuff. It’s just things that are important to know as you get up and rolling.

You’ll find most of this information in the business structure blueprint (more on that below) but we wanted to highlight a bit here as well.

                      Let’s dig in.

Do I need to make myself a business?

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 8

Let’s talk a little bit about email marketing.

You’ve heard the phrase, “the money is in the list” right?

It’s been floating around the internet for oh well since the internet started probably.

What it means, is for most people, especially those running niche sites doing affiliate marketing and blogs, email is a big key to your financial success.

But for freelancers, email marketing is a little bit different.

Do Freelancers Need to Worry About Email Marketing?

                          LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Break

                          Break

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 9

Here in week 9, we’re all about marketing!

Getting comfortable marketing is absolutely a critical key to success regardless of what type of business you’re running.

After all, let’s face it if you can’t sell your business to clients or readers then you’re going to be in trouble before you start.

Marketing is also the spot where a lot of people get caught up.

We get it, it makes you nervous putting yourself out there. What happens if they say no or tell you to go away? (Hint: if they say no, it’s ok, it happens all the time and very few people will ever tell you to go away).

So one of the best ways we know how to help you get over that marketing hump is to make marketing a constant part of your schedule.

Building small stair step style goals can help you make marketing just part of your life and help you get over your nerves while doing it.

But at the end of the day remember this: no one and we mean this, no one is going to market for you. You have to do it yourself.

This week and next week we’re going to dig into the ins and outs of marketing.

                            Ready to start?

                            Figure out your marketing mix

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 10

Last week, we covered the basics of marketing, the things you need to know to get started and how to create your very own marketing mix.

Hopefully,  you got some ideas on how you want to approach marketing in the last week as you’ve been going through that blueprint.

This week, we’re going to dig into that a little bit more and look at some of the more advanced marketing techniques you can use to build your site and client base.

One of the best ways you can invest a big chunk of your time when it comes to marketing is through networking.

So let’s dig into how to get better at networking and where you should focus your efforts.

How to network (and why it matters)

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 11

We’re hitting the end of the road with the week by week coaching program.

                                Cue the bittersweet music.

But before we finish things up, let’s go back to talking about money — after all, that’s kind of why we’re here, right?

So let’s look at some of the advanced monetization strategies you can start thinking about for your business.

Like a few of the other weeks, the approaches are going to be somewhat different for freelancers versus people who run niche sites so we’ll split things up below.

A final note before we dig into this stuff…

You don’t have to worry about all of this right now. Chances are, over the last 12 weeks you’ve had to take breaks or a week or two have extended out a little longer than you’ve expected.

                                That’s all perfectly ok.

The vast majority of people going through this process aren’t going to be bang on with every week; it’s just a path you can follow.

The point is that as you get towards the end of these 12 weeks, you can start thinking about how you might continue to grow the site down the road. That might be 2 months from now or two years from now, all of that is up to you. We just want to get you to start thinking about it.

Ok with that out of the way, let’s dig in.

                                How to Earn More Money

LR Freelance Writing Bootcamp: Week 12

Well, here we are. The end.

                                  You’ve made it!

First, pat yourself on the back. It doesn’t matter if you’ve hit this point 12 weeks after starting or 52 weeks, you’re here.

Over the last few months, we’ve tried to provide a step by step guide to getting you started off the ground.

Hopefully, you’ve found this helpful and have made some real progress from when you first started. So, let’s cover what you can do to keep that momentum and progress going.

This week, we’re going to give our final lesson: building good habits.

                                  Why Habits Matter
