Freelance Writing: Phase 2: Preparing Yourself to Start

In phase 2, we’re going to start doing things for real. So while we want you to read everything, in this section, in particular, you need to follow the exercises.

It’s time to take some action.

            Ready?

            Good.

Here, we’re going to focus on the main things you need to do to prepare yourself to start your freelance writing career.

The first things we’re focusing on here are figuring out what you want to write about and getting yourself set up to share what you write.

Freelance Writing: Phase 3: Thinking Like a Business

The next phase we’re going to look at is getting yourself out there.

But first, let’s cover some of the things you need to get in line before you get started.

I talked about how you need to think like a business at the start of the blueprint, and this is where part of that comes into action.

So we’re going to focus on more of the technical side of things. What you need to have in place to start.

Namely, we’re going to focus on how to set your rates (and get paid) and how to protect yourself as well as some red flags to watch out for as you get out there.

Hopefully, having an understanding of the business side of writing before you get into it will help it seem not quite as scary as you get started.

                              Freelance Writing: Phase 4: Marketing

Alright, it’s time to start getting some clients.

At the start, you do it through marketing.

Marketing is a word that encompasses a lot of different things including cold and warm outreach, applying to jobs, networking, and getting people to come to you.

There are dozens of different marketing techniques you can use to find customers and start building your business.

In this course, we’re going to cover the basics you can use to get started.

If there is one thing you learn it’s that you have to make marketing a real focus of your business. At the start, people are not going to come to you. You have to go to them.

The majority of people who struggle early in their freelancing careers are in trouble because they aren’t doing any marketing.

Hopefully, reading this is going to help you get on the right track from the very start.
